Gatther long strips of construction paper,
1 for each prophet, with his name, small picture and on the back, his testimony
(which I found in the book "Latter Day Prophets" by Emerson Roy West and
searching many Ensigns.) I have also edited but not changed the testimonies
so that the kids will understand them.
Bring a table with the following items
to represent each prophet:
-
Brigham Young-Mountain of the Lord Video
-
John Taylor -Doctrine and Covenants
-
Wilford Woodruff -Hand recorder
-
Lorenzo Snow -Picture of Savior
-
Joseph F Smith -Hyrum's picture
-
Heber J. Grant -Journal
-
George Albert -Idaho Falls Temple Picture
-
David O McKay -picture with wife (from SS
lesson book)
-
Joseph Fielding -picture of him in plane (SS
book)
-
Spencer W. Kimball - Indian doll or "Do It"
sign
-
Ezra Taft Benson -Scout book
-
Howard W Hunter - BYU sign
-
Gordon B Hinckley - Hymn book pg. 135
GAK pictures around the room for them
to choose in order and a story or fact paper paperclipped to the picture.
The story or fact sheet has things about the prophet that we haven't talked
about in primary yet - specifically how they knew Joseph Smith. I didn't
realize that 5 prophets knew Joseph personally!!!
What we will do is:
-
Have a child pick a picture (in order) and
we will talk about the story or fact sheet.
-
While I am telling about that prophet they
will see if they can match the prophet to something on the table.
-
Then we will go to the tack board and put
the picture up and take down the strip of paper with that Prophets name
on it.
-
First we will read (also our good readers)
the testimony of Joseph Smith and then make a link chain adding each prophet
as we go.
-
Then the last link will be "Our Primary" because
we are the ones learning about the prophets and their testimonies of Joseph
Smith.
-
Last we will link our primary link to Joseph
Smith link to show that we have "connected" to Joseph Smith because we
have learned the testimonies of each of the prophets. I also have songs
here and there and we will start with "Latter Day Prophets" song
