Father's Day was first celebrated by Sonora
Scott Dodd in Spokane, Washington.
She had been raised just by her father
after her mother died when she was young. Mother's Day already existed
and she wanted to honor fathers in the same way.
Father's Day became official in 1924, when
U.S. President Calvin Coolidge roclaimed it to be recognized on the 3rd
sunday in June. Roses are the official flower, and red and white the official
colors.
