"If your job was to find precious diamonds for a jewelry store, where would you go to find them? If your job was to locate precious gold, where would you go to find it? (answer; in the ground). Well, the words of our prophets are more precious than gold or diamonds and today we are going to go looking deep in the ground to find some of these precious gems..." (Anne Box)
I got a big plastic container and lots
of dirt.
I thought of stories from old time and
latter day prophets.
Then I tried to think of things that I
had in my house that I could use to go along with the stories.
I had pictures displayed about each of
the people that I was talking about.
The kids would come up to the front and
use my little shovel to dig a treasure from the dirt.
They would look at what they dug up and
then glance at all the pictures and try to figure out who the treasure
belonged too.
Some of the kids could tell me the exact
story and I let them do that if they could.
But some of the stories I had to tell
for them and some of the parents that day, who were visiting, even helped
with the stories.
Lehi: a little plastic tent or
a compass (in a ziploc bag), representing taking his family into the wilderness.

the iron rod

was for the walnut tree that grew in his backyard. The tree has been used
to build the new podium in the new conference center.
