Our Bishop
(unknown)
(if anyone knows who wrote this, please write me, so I can ask for promission to bring it here.
I just LOVE the way it has been made a combined activity. + it can be used for Farthers day also....)

The song leader introduces "The Dearest Names" (pg. 208) if your children do not know it..
Instead of saying mother or father, sing Bishop.
For the next line we're just saying, "Bishop so loving and kind and true".
Then we'll do the single hand sign with the first two I love you and then sign each word of the last I love you.

I've recycled an old chart with "doors" on it and behind each door I've tucked a little gift for the Bishop.
We'll start by talking about how hard it would be to "fill the Bishop's Shoes" and then through song and spoken word we'll do just that, filling his shoes with the little treats behind each door. (I will pick up a pair of his shoes from his wife after he leaves for church in the morning.)

The shoes will be placed up front stuffed with "smiley face" tissue paper and a child will come up and open a door and remove the item, placing it in the shoe. Behind each gift is a clue ... the children will guess from the clue what Primary song it's referring to and then we'll sing it and talk about the principle behind the song and the gift.

The Bishop has been asked to come in the last few minutes of Primary and we'll present him with his shoes and sing "The Dearest Name". Then while soft background music plays the closing song, we'll talk briefly how the Bishop represents our Heavenly Father and how we can honor him on Father's Day by being reverent and showing respect in his house.

We'll then sing page 28: "I love my Heavenly Father and I will try to be reverent when I'm in his house. Then he'll be near to me."

The treats we'll tuck into the Bishop's shoes are:
Rubber band = thanks for being flexible and stretching to meet out needs.
We'll have a huge elastic for demo ... each child that can think of something the Bishop does for us, gets to hold on and stretch ... hopefully it will be stretched 5-6 different directions!
Clue = Do you know a Primary song about being flexible?
Song = I Wiggle pg. 271
Could also use "hinges" but I like wiggle, because then we can sing it a second time replacing wiggles with stretching.

Kleenex = To be used for tears of joy and happiness!
Clue = There's a _____ way to _____ and be ______.
Song = Choose the Right Way pg. 160

Mini Flashlight = Thanks for lighting the way for us to return to our Heavenly Father
We'll talk about the uses of a flashlight and how the Bishop also acts as a light that we can follow.
Easy clue = "to shine for Him each day"
Song = Jesus wants me for a sunbeam pg 60
Harder clue = "I'll follow his light"
Song = I Belong to the Church of Jesus Christ pg 77

Granola Bar = Just like Nephi, you must GO and Do ...Use this for extra energy!
Easy clue = "Adam served the Lord by following his ways ..." what must we do to?
Song = Follow the Prophet pg 110
Harder clue = What was Nephi's reply? (I will go, I will do...)
Song = Nephi's Courage pg 120

Eraser = Thank you for helping us "erase" our sins. We'll discuss how Heavenly Father "erases" our sins when we truly repent. How can the Bishop help us with that process?
Clue = What primary song tells us to forgive others just as Heavenly Father forgives us?
Song = Help me Dear Father pg 99

Ruler = We count on you to help us measure our spiritual growth
We'll talk about the baptismal interview and how as they get older they will meet with the Bishop regularly. What kinds of questions he will ask. He's helping you stay on the "straight" and narrow and helping you "measure" your spiritual growth.
Clue = The Lord needs _______ ________.
The Lord can depend on ____. We've got to measure up!
Song = I will be Valiant pg 162

Rock = Just like you, we are building our testimony on the Rock of the Gospel.
Clue = Which Primary song is a parable Jesus told and talks about a rock (Matt. 7:24-27)
Song = The Wise Man and the Foolish Man pg. 281
We'll discuss how we can be like the wise man and build our testimony on the solid foundation of Christ's church by listening to our Bishop's advise. We can trust his word much more than we can trust the ways of the world.
