| Special
Christmas Eve Sharing Time
(by
Lisa Kingsford)
|
Our main goal, always, is to have a Christ-centered
Primary and we hope to be able to really focus on Christ and give the children
a spiritual experience learning about the true meaning of Christmas.
Our main goals are to help the children
understand how the prophecies and the actual events of Christmas mesh together
in Bethlehem and Ancient America and, most importantly, to focus on the
testimonies of the Prophets and the people we "visit" on our journey -
to build the children's testimonies.
We plan to keep all the children during
both the class time and sharing time so we will have enough time.
(This could also be modified to be a quarterly
activity.)
-
Have each member of the presidency and one
of the teachers each take a group around to the various areas (along with
any teachers that don't have parts). The teachers can dress up and help
us out with the parts.
-
All parts will be written ahead of time and
assigned.
-
May get help from the youth or other adults
within the ward.
Special Christmas Eve
Sharing Time
December 24, 2000
Time schedule
12:20 Start Primary:
Entire Primary together -Announcements, Song, Opening Prayer,
birthdays and then introduction to Sharing Time. No talks.
12:30 Begin the
Program groups as follows:
1: Waiting to go:
-
sing Christmas carols and wait for your group
to go. Leave at 5 min. intervals.
2: Go to old Jerusalem (abt. 720 B.C.)
:
-
Isaiah saw a vision (He could tell us when
he lived and all about what he saw in vision - read from the scriptures,
add testimony) Isaiah 9:6
3: Go to Ancient America (abt. 580 B.C.)
1 Nephi 10:17, Ch. 11
-
Nephi saw a vision (He could tell us who he
is, when he lived, and about what he saw and read from the scriptures,
tell us of his testimony that he knows it will happen.)
4: Go to Ancient America many years later
(abt. 6 B.C.) Helaman Ch.15-18
-
Samuel the Lamanite (He can tell us what he
saw, who he tried to tell - he could be telling the people when we arrive
and then get chased off. We could follow him and hear his story and testimony
that he knows that the Savior will be born very soon. He could tell us
of the signs. We could be part of the believers. The "bad guys" could come
take some of the believers away to kill them. We would head out on our
way in time travel to . . .)
5: Go to the hills in Juda, (abt. 5 yrs
later) Luke 1:5-60
-
Elisabeth tells us about the visit she had
from her cousin Mary and how the baby inside her leaped when she greeted
her. She shares what Mary told her about seeing an angel and being the
Mother of the Savior. She shares her testimony of Christ.
6: Go to Galilee (abt 7-8 months later)
-
A Decree Reader reads to us that all the world
must be taxed. We hear Joseph and Mary talk about preparing to go to the
city of David (Bethlehem) to pay their taxes.
7: Go to Bethlehem (a few weeks later)
-
Inn keepers - We knock on doors to find the
inn where Joseph and Mary are staying. We knock on several finally finding
the one that sent them to a stable. He doesn't tell us any more than to
leave them alone, they have it hard enough. We go off to find the stable,
but can't. We get caught up in time travel and go visit....
8: Samuel (same time, different part of
the world-Ancient America, again)
-
as things have happened just as they were
prophesied Finish the story of Samuel the Lamanite - day-night-day of light,
he tells us what has been happening to the believers.
9: Out in the fields of Bethlehem (same
time, back in Bethlehem)
-
Shepherds in the field - angels come, listen
to the account from the scriptures, listen to the angels sing. Sing with
the angels (be in the group of angels?) Follow the shepherds to the . .
.
10: Stable in Bethlehem
-
(Have a coat closet decorated as a stable
with animals and a manger, etc.) See Mary, Joseph, and the new born Baby.
Sing Away in a Manger or something like that.
11: Jerusalem, (a few years later) Matt
2:1-12
-
See the wise men. They tell of their meeting
with King Herod. They show us the gifts they brought and explain what they
mean. They go in search of the King of the Jews.
12: Waiting for everyone to get back into
the Primary Room
13: Go back to our time: The Year 2000
-
We return to the Primary room and sing until
everyone is there - one more song for the last group. Then we talk about
what we saw. How there were many prophets that told us what would happen.
How we saw that it did happen. Listen to the testimony of a modern Prophet
(on tape?) tell us that He has come and that he will return. Add my (Primary
President) testimony of such and talk briefly about how we can both find
Jesus in our lives (by reading scriptures, praying and letting him be part
of our lives) and how we can be like the Prophets and help others find
their way to Jesus, through missionary work and being good examples.
1:50 End with a small treat that is
symbolic of Christmas.
2:00 Closing Prayer.
Parts and basic idea of the role:
Isaiah: 12:30-12:50 hear testimony
and we remember the signs he gave us
Nephi: 12:25-1:00 he tells us of
his vision and his testimony
Samuel: 12:40-1:00 he tells us
his prophesy and what the people are doing to him - they come looking
for the good people and we escape just
in time! 1:00-1:20 He tells how some listened and were killed and us what
just happened - day-night-day - all excited!
Elizabeth: 12:45-1:05 tells of
John the Baptist leaping in her womb - and her testimony of Jesus Christ
Decree reader: 12:50-1:10 tell
the decree of Caesar that all be taxed
Mary: 12:50-1:10 hear the decree
and go on the
donkey 1:10-1:25 be in the stable
with a nativity set up.
Joseph: 12:50-1:10 hear the decree
and go to Bethlehem with Mary 1:10-1:25 - be in the stable with a nativity
set up.
Several Inn Keepers: 12:55-1:15 talk
with several inn keepers (like we are looking for Christ) One asks "How
do I remember? No way to know. Too many people. Don't bother me!" One tells
us there is no room and about shuts the door, but then, we ask about a
woman about to give birth. He remembers. He turned them away. One asks
what we want. We are looking for the woman about to give birth. He tells
us he gave them the stable. Please don't bother them. It's not a very good
room, but better than nothing. We go looking for the stable. (We get side
tracked and end up going to see how things are going for the Prophet Samuel.)
(We return to Bethlehem and decide to look for the stable outside of town
where we run into the shepherds)
2 sets of 3-5 shepherds: 1:05-1:25
watching the flocks and hearing the angels. They go with us to find
the stable and the baby. (Set 1 goes with group A, while the set 2 meets
with group B. Set 1 returns from the stable to meet with group C and replay,
while the set 2 goes to the stable with group B. Set 2 returns to meet
with group D while set 1 goes to the stable to meet with group C. Set 2
goes to the stable with group D.)
Narrator for Nativity: Reads about
the nativity. Points out the star. Leads us in song.
Wise Men 3+ : 1:15-1:30 Tell us
of the journey they have been making. It has been several years since the
new star appeared that they are following. They saw the King, but don't
dare return that way. They think he doesn't have good intentions toward
the baby. They show us the gifts that they are taking to Jesus and go on
their way.
-
Every person would be dressed up to tell us
about their part in the story.
-
Each leader of a group will have a special
space and time traveling watch that will tell them where they are to be
next (if they read it clock wise, they will know which room to go to and
can tell the children where they are and the year they have arrived in.
The person they meet will tell them who he/she is.
-
It is important to make sure the schedule
works because the children will be seeing the same people at different
times and there are other groups of children following - they must be at
a given location at different times.
