| Plan of Salvation (by Mary Ann) |
When I taught the Plan of Salvation in Sharing Time a few years ago, I used
white Styrofoam (bought at a craft store) to make a display.
Used a long flat piece as the bottom to stick everything is. My husband (he is the artist...) painted one Styrofoam ball white, representing the pre-existence. Then one ball as our earth; one ball half violet, half dark purple (Spirit World), three Styrofoam balls as the Celestial Kingdom (gold), Terrestrial (blue), and Telestial World (darker blue). He also painted a smaller ball black (Outer Darkness).
I stuck each of these balls on a wooden skewer. I also made a small white piece of fabric with lace on a wooden rod to represent the Veil. Found a Belleville Lego baby in our Legos and taped it to the top of a skewer too (representing us). Also a picture of Jesus Christ (Second Coming) was attached to a skewer.
As a backdrop I used one of those cardboard Display Boards and covered it with paper, printed dark blue with stars (got these papers at a scrapbook store).
While explaining the Plan of Salvation, I would take the item representing what I was talking about and stick it in the flat piece of Styrofoam in order, from left to right. Before taking out the next item, I would ask the children what they thought would be the next step in Heavenly Father's Plan.
They were really into this and knew a lot more than I had expected!
They liked the 3-dimensional setup and could better picture what the Plan was all about.
Afterwards they each received a small bag with 5 balls of different colors of homemade play dough and a piece of cardstock, titled "My Creation". They could use the play dough and create something (used cardstock as a base), just like Heavenly Father did when He created the earth.
This was done before the recommendation of mixing sharing time with music, so I had the entire 35 minutes to do this.
