House of the Lord
(by Patty in San Diego)

I did the six boxes thing too. I stacked the boxes; three on the bottom row, three on top. I drew a picture of a temple on the front of all six boxes and on the back a picture of a typical house. On a side of the box I wrote one word relating to this month's scripture-order, fasting, faith, prayer, learning, and glory-(I saved God for later.) On the inside of each box I put a small item or two relating to the scripture word:

ORDER:
Small recipe book. I related it to our recipe to get back to Heavenly Father (commandments, scriptures etc.) and that if we follow our recipe we'll come back to Heavenly Father.

FASTING:
A small plate and a small canned food tied with a ribbon-told how our fasting serves others by providing food for the poor and needy and that our empty plate is really not so empty, because of all the blessings we receive from our fasting. Then I listed some for them.

FAITH:
A small jar or packet of seeds (I used sunflower seeds) I related faith in the seeds growing to our faith in Jesus Christ.

PRAYER:
A small toy lion-told the story of Daniel in the Lion's Den and the power of prayer working for Daniel then related it to the "lions" in our lives and how prayer can help us today.

LEARNING:
Small Book of Mormon and copy of Primary songbook (I didn't have a small Bible) Talked about these and other ways we learn about the gospel (parents, teachers, speakers, the Prophet, etc.)

GLORY:
A small flashlight-related this to the glory of Jesus Christ and that His light that is in each one of us.

Sounds like I talked a lot, but I tried to keep it short and to the point.
The kids got to come up and pick the items out of the boxes and at the end they got to put the puzzle of the temple together (I faced all the temple pieces forward instead of the words)
Then after all that I turned the whole set of boxes around to reveal the typical house picture and how we need to do all the things we discussed at our own house too, not just at the temple.

To top it off, I had heart candy to relate to love for the last "house of God". Barley fit it all in 20 minutes, our ST length, but it worked well!
