Seasonal games

January:
Melting Snowman- A similar game to Hangman. Make a Snowman with separate pieces for each section of the body, hat, eyes, nose, arms, etc. Start out the game with a complete snowman, then have a name of a song children need to guess (like in hangman) If a child guesses a wrong letter, have him/her take off part of the snowman. Try to get the children to guess the song before the snowman is all gone!

February:
Cut out a bunch of hearts with song names on the back. Tape them up onto
something and have kids pick.

March:
Make a kite out of a colorful piece of paper. Make a tail out of string with several bows on it. On the back of each bow write a number, and make a list
for yourself of which number goes with each song. Have children pick bows, then sing the song.

April:
Borrow an Easter basket, and get some of those colorful operable plastic eggs. Write out some good Easter song names on little slips of paper and put them in the eggs Have the children pick an egg, then sing the song. Variation- Hide the eggs around the room (don't forget where you hid them!) and have the children take turns hunting for them. Variation- See the Hide the Note above and instead of hiding the note, hide the egg.

May:
Make flowers with pipe cleaner stems. Write a number on the back of each flower, and make a list for yourself of all the songs you want to sing corresponding with each number. After you sing the song, have a child place the flower in a vase, and at the end show them what a pretty arrangement
they have made.

June:
1. Make large strawberries and write a different song title on the back of each one.  Using a poster Write across the top "You Sing Berry Well" below the written lines make a large green staff to fill the poster.  Tape the strawberries to a place on the staff.  Have a child pick a strawberry and sing the song that is on it.
2. Draw a large circle on a yellow poster board also draw large triangles for the suns rays.  Cut the pieces out and have the child help you build the sun.  Put a song title on each ray of the sun and sing the song and place the ray on the sun.

July:
Make a seagull out of construction paper, and put it on the end of a fishing line with a strong magnet on its beak. Make little crickets out of brown or black paper, and attach paperclips to them. Have the seagulls catch the crickets! Make all the parts of a wagon out of construction paper. On the back of each part of the wagon, put a number which will correspond to a song. Have the children take turns putting the parts of the wagon together.

August:
1. Watermelon seed choosing activity.  Make a quilted square with a watermelon printed on it, and make Velcro seeds to put on it. Or you could use a poster (with a watermelon drawn on it with paper seeds). On the back of the seeds you can write song names or numbers.
2. Using a large poster make a beach scene, write at the top "We Shell Sing" then cut out different colored seashells and have them take them off the poster and sing the song written on the back of each shell

September:
Autumn leaves or apples on a tree. On a large piece of poster board, draw the trunk and branches of a tree without any leaves. Cut out leaves out of red, yellow, orange and brown construction paper or red apples, and write numbers on the back. Make a list for yourself of songs you want to work on number the list and these will correspond with the numbers on the back of the leaves/apples. Tape the leaves/apples to the branches of the tree and have the children pick them off the tree. After they pick a leaf/apple, sing the corresponding song.

October:
Autumn leaves on a tree. On a large piece of poster board, draw the trunk and branches of a tree without any leave. Cut out leaves out of red, yellow, orange and brown construction paper, and write numbers on the back. Make a list for yourself of songs you want to work on- number the list and these will correspond with the numbers on the back of the tree. Tape the leaves to the branches of the tree and have the children pick them off the tree. After they pick a leave, sing the corresponding song.

or:

  1. Make drawings of several Jack-o-lantern enough to make a pumpkin patch.  Write a different title on each one and have a child pick the Jack-o-lantern they like best and sing the song.
  2. Make a large pumpkin out of Orange poster board, cut facial expressions from black poster board, and write a title of a song on the back of the pieces.  Have the children help you put a face on the pumpkin.  Sing the song on the back of each piece as you put it up.
  3. You need a witches caldron for this a small piece of dry ice.  Write names of songs on frogs, toad, flies, bones etc. and as the children add the items to the caldron sing the song. 

November:

  1. Turkey with song names on feathers. Have children pick the feathers.
  2. Use a headband and put feathers (with song titles you want to work on) into it (Indian headdress) have the children sing the songs
  3. Use a cornucopia and fill with plastic food.  Put a number on each piece of fruit or vegetable. Make a list for yourself of songs you want to work on and number the list and these will correspond with the numbers the pieces of fruit or vegetable.  As a child picks something from the cornucopia sing the song that corresponds to the number on that item.

December:

  1. Assemble a snowman, song names on parts 
  2. Assemble a nativity scene with song names on the different characters and animals. 
  3. Make a Christmas tree out of construction paper, and have kids decorate with construction paper ornaments.
