An idea that I used in a primary class was to have a "pass the parcel"  with all of the lesson wrapped in its layers. The first layer had the opening prayer, the second introduced the attention activity, the third had  a scripture account...etc, and at the centre after the closing prayer there was a small treat for the children (with the idea that dilligence brings blessings.) The children responded really well to this lesson, and it held their attention!
