Know your ancestors
by Marci Maney, NC

We asked all the children to find an ancestor that they would like to dress up as and tell a story about.
We also asked them to bring a picture of that ancestor and handed out Ancestor sheets that they could fill out on their ancestor.
We asked for info like Name, Birth Date, Marriage Date, Spouse's Name, Children's names, Death Date and then left enough space for a story or info on their ancestor. Of course we started asking for all this about a month prior to the activity.

We had 3 different stations.

1. Station:
Tell everyone who they were and tell their story of their ancestor.
(I think they played a game before hand, trying to match the primary child to the pictures of the ancestors.)

2. Station:
We made our temple books. We bought 1'' binders and spray glued some fabric on the front and a cut out paper that said "My Temple Book" and had a silouette of a temple on it and a space for their names. The children then decorated them to their hearts content. We made a printout about the Raliegh Temple (the closest temple to us) to put in the front of the book and of course are adding the Ancestor sheets also.

3. Station:
The third station was decorating temple cookies. They had white frosting and all kinds of sprinkles to put on top. While they were frosting The 2nd Counselor did some temple trivia, and after they were finished there where legos that they could build their own temple with.

This Activity day worked out really well. The main thing is that we really had to announce to the parents that we needed pictures and info on the ancestors every chance we could get.
