My Gospel Standards- "I will
seek good friends and treat other's kindly" shared by Dana Hardy |
Integrated sharing time modeled by the Primary General
Board
Here are my notes of a combined music/sharing time that was modeled to Primary
Leaders on May 2, 2000 in Charleston, West Virginia by
Sister Myers of the General Primary Board. It is almost word for word. I was
helping out by playing the piano for her so I had a copy of the sharing time and
jotted most of it down.
THEME: My Gospel Standards- "I will seek
good friends and treat other's kindly".
(I will refer to the Primary leader as PL and the song leader as SL.)
PL: Today we are going to talk about one of our gospel standards (show poster).
Please repeat after me "I will seek good friends and treat other's kindly" (kids
repeat)
SL: We are going to sing the Valiant Song together. While
we are singing, I want the boys to find out how we should serve the Lord's
people, and I want the girls to find two things we will stand for."
(Sing song, ask questions, get answers)
PL: Today we are going to read a story from the scriptures. It is about
the Good Samaritan (If you are in senior Primary you can have them find
the story by looking in their Bible Dictionary for the scripture
reference.) I need four helpers to help me act out this story.
(One helper reads the story from the scriptures, one is the person who is hurt,
the others are the ones who saw him as he laid there.
Have them pantomime the story as it is read.)
Q-If you would like someone to be kind to you when you are sad or hurt, Put your
hand over your heart.
Q-If you are willing to be kind like the Good Samaritan, stand up.
Q- If you think Heavenly Father and Jesus are happy when we are kind to others,
fold your arms and sit down.
(Visual aid-cardboard sandals, or you could use some large men sandals)
Imagine if you were standing in the shoes of the Samaritan. Who could be a
modern Samaritan? (call two children up)
I am going to give you a problem, then I want you to stand in the Samaritan's
shoes and tell me how a modern Samaritan could solve that
problem.
Situation One--Someone is left out in a playground game. You are on one of the
teams and you see this person all alone. What would you
do?
Situation Two_ Someone who called you names last week and hurt your feelings has
fallen on the playground and is hurt and crying. You are the only one around.
What would you do?
SL-Let's sing a song about being kind, like the Good
Samaritan
(song- Kindness begins with me, Actions-pat, snap, pat, snap, snap, hug)
PL- we are going to divide into four stations to talk
about kindness situations (use more sandal ideas, puppets, pictures showing
kindness, whatever fits your primary)
CHALLENGE-give each child some Good Samaritan sandals (paper handout) so they
can do the activity at home with their parents
PL- next week, let's share our kindness experiences. (bear your testimony of
being a good Samaritan).
The only thing I would add to this is HALF of sharing time is to be music and
two songs are not half, so in this case I think the music leader would have at
least 10 minutes at the beginning to work on a song or do some seasonal things,
but you can see that using music during the sharing time reinforces the message
that is given.
