Noah's ark
by Char

Sunday before .... Noah announces to the Primary that the rain is coming and he needs their help to prepare.
The entire activity is guided by Noah.

Activity begins with all the children in the Primary room and Noah calls a family council and explains what preparations need to occur before the rain comes (what is going to happen throughout the activity- boat building, gathering the animals and food).

BOAT BUILDING ACTIVITY ONE
Noah leads the children into the cultural hall to build paper boats and fill them with animal crackers. Teachers will be there to assist in the construction of the boats. During the construction of the boats Noah explains the dimensions and design of the ark as described in the scriptures.

GATHERING ANIMALS ACTIVITY TWO
Noah leads the senior primary into the nursery room to play animal memory, which will be run by a teacher. The junior primary will remain in the cultural hall to make animal puppets with paper bags. Also to be run by the teachers.

Next all the children will be brought back to the cultural hall where they will all play an animal matching game which will divide them into three groups for the next activity. (GAME-- each child will receive a picture of an animal and they will have to find all the other children with the same picture.)

GATHERING FOOD ACTIVITY THREE
Noah explains to the children that they now need to go gather food. Each of the groups led by a teacher will go on a scavenger hunt. We divided them into 3 groups so they were all going on the scavenger hunt but not to the same place each time a clue was read. On the hunt they will collect a sack lunch consisting of a sandwich, chips and fruit. Each group will come back to the cultural hall to eat their lunch.

They will go on a scavenger hunt where they will find items for their lunch (Clues I've added below)

We are making a huge ark out of butcher paper and hanging it on the wall with a rainbow over the top. Once the kids have gathered their food from the scavenger hunt, they will gather into the "ark" area.
We found music with rain sounds in the background so the kids will feel like they are in the ark and it's began to rain.

This is the scavenger hunt we came up with. You may have to change it to fit your needs.

It's time to gather
Some food for you
Like God commanded
Noah to do.

You must leave at once
There's no time to gain
Look for the clues
Before it starts to rain.

(These top 2 sayings will be in an envelope for each group to start out with along with one of the clues below as the first clue)
The clues below we gave to each group, but they were in a different order for each group so that each group wasn't going to the same place each time)

Go to a place
Where the food is kept cold
No need to think twice
Just do as your told. (frig in the kitchen--sandwich)

The rain is coming
Time is growing late
Go gather some food
It's in room # 8. (bag of chips)

Now go out the north doors
Don't stop for a rest
Turn right and go 10 long steps
Where you'll find an ice chest. (juice box)

Now go back inside
And take a long walk
To a place during Primary
Where you stand to give a talk. (cookie near the primary podium in the primary room)

Because you have been obedient
And followed each clue
You'll be blessed like Noah
For being faithful and true.

Now go back to the ark
It's time to eat
Go find a table
And take a seat

During the lunch the rain will begin (music of thunderstorms) and Noah tells the children its time to board the ark which will be on the stage. (This was a huge ark drawn out on butcher paper and painted) We pinned it to the curtains on the stage. Everyone gathered up on the stage. During the stay on the boat Noah will talk about the future and the amount of time they spent on the ark etc. After a while Noah will send out a dove (child) to check if the rain has stopped.

When the rain stops the children will come out of the ark to see a giant rainbow and have rainbow sherbet for dessert.

Close activity with a prayer.
