My faith in Jesus Christ is strengthened when I pray
by Kimberly Roeder

Begin by singing The Wise Man and the Foolish Man (CS 281) Wise man verse only.
Discuss the type of foundation that the wise man built his house on.
He had a strong foundation because he built his house upon a rock.

Teaching:
When we pray we are building a foundation of rock. This foundation grows stronger each time we pray and our faith in Jesus Christ is strengthened.

(Display picture of Jesus with the overlay picture of the children praying)
Then when the rains and floods come in our lives (tough things happen) then we know whom we can turn to.

**Build a foundation of rocks under the picture of Christ and the Children praying.
Start with the four blocks listing the way we pray:
  1. Address our Heavenly Father
  2. Show Thankfulness
  3. Ask for help and blessings
  4. Close in the name of Jesus Christ

Use the scripture reference rocks to tell stories of prayers in the scriptures:

1. 1 Nephi 7:16-18 (Nephi prays to burst the bands that his brothers tied)
2. 1 Nephi 18:8-23 (Nephi prays to calm the seas)
3. Enos 1:12-15 (Enos prays to preserve the records of the Nephites)
4. Mosiah 24:7-25 (Alma's people pray for deliverance and ease of burdens)
5. Alma 33:1-14 (Alma taught the people that they should pray in all places)

Use the blank rocks to encourage children to share their own stories and testimonies of times when prayer helped them.

Conclusion and Testimony:

Testify that the children's faith in Jesus Christ will be strengthened and their house will be built upon rocks as they pray daily to their Heavenly
Father.

Pass out a picture of the rock to each child so that they can record a time when prayer helped build their foundation of faith in Jesus Christ.
