Music "Instruments in the Hands of God"
March Workshop in SLC, notes taken by Ann, Ut

Music Workshop
*The handout is online  "Instruments in the Hands of God" and is basically what they followed.
Do instruments need to be tuned? Instruments are tuned once and then are played for long periods of time. We are like instruments but we must be constantly tuning ourselves.

How can we be "in tune" with the Spirit? - pray, scripture study, be familiar with the primary music, attend the temple, be unified as a presidency

This was emphasized and stressed to everyone there:
Sharing Time is a 30 minute period. Half of sharing time is for the music leader to teach the song that month, review other songs, sing fun songs, and teach principles along with the songs. The other half is for the presidency member to teach a gospel principle. Music may be integrated into the presidency member's half to reinforce what is being taught.
pages 300 & 301 in the Children's Songbook - teaching helps for music

Focus on the music sometimes, not just the words
Teach the children about counting and time - 2:4 time, 3:4 time, etc.
They had us lead the music and practice changing times

When teaching a song, use one or more of these methods:
Capture the children's attention, direct the children's listening, use the scriptures, or involve the children.

Idea for teaching "Love is Spoken Here" - have large L-O-V-E letters given to individual children.
