Read Matthew 5:16

Show pictures of a sun and star. Talk briefly about the source of light they give us and its purpose.

Sing: “I am like a star”

Show pictures of the following, and then talk about their function:

• porch light ~ serves as a beacon to help us find home
• campfire ~ provides warmth and comfort.
• lighthouse ~ protects from danger
• flashlight ~ defines a safe path
• night light ~ banishes darkness and eliminates fear
• candle ~ light can be shared or given to others

What can we do, so we can be a light to others.

All the things we just talked about, was things that gave us: warmth, comfort, protection, make us feel safe. Can you name someone who can give us the same feeling?

Sing: “The Holy Ghost” pg. 105

Ask: What can we do, to make our light shine?

Accept the suggestions the children come up with. Ask if they know a song, that emphasize the doctrine. If they can, then sing the song.

If they do not know a song, and you do, tell them, and then sing it.

• Keep Sabbath Day Holy ~ Sing “Chapel Doors, When I go to Church”
• Share my testimony ~ Sing “I know my father lives, The church of Jesus Christ”
• Invite friends to activities ~ Sing “Oh, Here we are together”
• Be kind to others ~ Sing “Kindness begins with me, I'll walk with you”
• Be honest ~ Sing “I believe in being honest”
• Service ~ Sing “When we're helping, Give said the little stream”
