Today I would like to talk about What a Prophet is: I would like to do this by using the letters in the word Prophet. (Hold the letters P-R-O-P-H-E-T (large so all can see) as you say each one and have someone put them on the blackboard)
P stands for President of the Church. Gordon B Hinckley is the President of the Church and he is the only one who can receive revelation for the church. (Picture of Gordon B. Hinckley)
SING: I Belong to the Church of Jesus Christ or Latter-day Prophets
R stands for Revelator. Talked about what reveal means. A prophet Reveals God’s will for us. In the olden days Moses gave his people the ten commandments in revelation of God’s will. (Picture of Moses and the Ten commandments), in our day Joseph Smith gave us The Book of Mormon. (Tell story)
SING: Book of Mormon Stories or The Golden Plates
O stands for Obedient. A prophet is obedient to God's will. He does everything the Lord commands. Abraham was willing to obey the Lord’s command to sacrifice his son Isaac. (Picture of Abraham and Isaac). Likewise Lehi was obedient to go into the dessert, and Nephi was obedient when he went back to Jerusalem.
SING: Nephi's Courage or Follow the prophet verse 4.
P Stands for Prophecy. Defined prophecy: Prophets use the gift of Prophecy to warn the people of future events. Such as Noah tried to warn the people of what would happen with the destruction of the Flood. And only his family listened to him. (Picture of Noah)
SING: The Wise Man and the Foolish Man
H Stands for Holding the Priesthood keys. Peter James and John restored the Melchizedek Priesthood to the earth when they blessed Joseph Smith and gave him Priesthood keys. These keys allow Gods work to be done on this earth. (Picture of Restoration of the Priesthood)
SING: The priesthood restored
E Stands for Example of Service. Our Prophet shows us how to serve our fellow man, and how to be a good example to others. King Benjamin was a great example of service. (Picture of King Benjamin)
SING: Do As I'm Doing
T Stands for Testifies of Jesus Christ. All the Prophets have testified of Christ. Isaiah Prophesied of Jesus’ birth. (Picture of Isaiah and Jesus birth) We can also testify that we know that we have a living prophet today that stands at the head of our Church. (Picture of the Prophet)
SING: We Listen to a Prophet's Voice

Give your testimony:
I know that my Savior lives and by following the prophet, I can be closer to him and know his will for me.(Picture of the Savior)
SING: I know my Father lives

Conny Hillgaard: Mendy Stucki made this great activity. I just added the songs ~ and out came this combined activity.

Alisa Jackson got the same idea. This is what she wrote:
“I put each letter on a piece of paper with its word on the back. Tacked
them up and had the kids come flip them over. Then I had other kids hold
the pictures that went with each story. Here's what it was: Each of these
letters/stories had corresponding pictures from the Gospel Art Picture
Kit. It went really well and came out to be just the right amount of time.
Junior
Primary was kind of burned out by the end and didn't really learn
much more of the new song, but we've got another week for that. Senior
Primary did really well with it. Whenever I do combined singing/sharing
times I find that they tend to go much better than having them separated.
The kids are still kind of confused by the whole thing and ask if we're
having singing time later. They don't seem to get that they're already
singing. Kind of funny to me. But, anyway, that's my plug for combining
them. One tip though, if you combine them, try to incorporate some fun,
action songs in as well. If they're all really serious songs, the kids
do tend to burn out quickly.
