Mothers day
(by Sharon Stone)

I had 4 large envelopes on the board. (what you use on the outside of the envelopes is not that important- it is merely to let them know that the theme is 'Mothers'). On the outside of the envelopes, I had pictures of special mothers. I chose a picture of:

1. David O. McKay with his mother
2. Elisabeth with John the Baptist
3. Mary with baby Jesus
4. Adam and Eve

One by one, 4 children were asked to choose an envelope and find out what was inside it.

On the inside of the envelopes, I had:

1. A picture of Mary and John the beloved at the cross on Calvary. If a child chose this envelope, I told them the story of how Jesus, knowing he was about to die, put his mother in John's care SEE JOHN 19: 25-27. Also inside was a little card with the

SING: 'Mother, I love you' which we sang after the story

2. Personal experience. A picture of a homemade billie cart. I told them the story of when my own mother helped me to make a cart out of an apple box, how much fun we had making it together, and how I knew she loved me.

SING: 'I love Mother'

3. Word strips - RUTH, NAOMI, ELIMALECH, MAHLON, CHILION, ORPAH, BOAZ, BETHLEHEM-JUDAH, MOAB. Using the wordstrips, I told them the wonderful story of Naomi, and Ruth's deep love for her mother-in-law. (Ruth 1:16,17; 2:11).

SING"As I have loved you"

4. Story book "I'll love you forever" by Robert Munsch - Firefly books. My most favorite book of a mother's love for her child.

SING: "Mother tell me the story"
